Spring Enters Garden Gate

The wax potpourri bowl has the scent of a candle, just don't set it on fire.

Remnants of Easter still dotted Mildred Murphy's North Park Avenue store, but it was a lilac wreath and potpourri bowl that the shop owner said better reflected her mood, as spring finally arrived in Rockville Centre on Tuesday.

Patch put Murphy to the test, asking her to point out an affordable item that anyone could pick up at Garden Gate Revisited to make their home more welcoming this spring.

She selected a $26 wax potpourri bowl, which set off a lilac scent.

Also catching out eye? A $75 lilac wreath put together by Murphy.

"If lilacs aren't growing in your garden, it can grow on your door," she said.

No need to water the wreath if you pin it outside today - there is a 90 percent chance of rain on Friday.
