Report: RVC Best Town in NY for Job Seekers

A financial analysis website has named Rockville Centre the best place in New York for job seekers, thanks to its population stability and residents’ high income.

“What we really tried to look out was a holistic view. It wasn’t necessary where people can find the best jobs,” said Annie Wang, an analyst at NerdWallet. “We were trying to look for cities that have the best circumstances for job seekers.”

The study used census data to rank the top towns.

“Rockville Centre’s residents make a median household income of $108,071, and an unemployment rate of 5.3 percent, besting the New York state average of 7.6 percent,” according to the study. “Rockville Centre has a fairly steady population, with a minimal 1.2 percent decline from 2008 to 2011.”

Other Long Island towns on the list include Smithtown, Huntington and Valley Stream. All but one of other areas are located in Westchester.

Although not a certainty, Wang said the numbers bode well for Rockville Centre and the rest of the list, and they should remain “stable for a long time.”

“We firmly believe that Rockville Centre would be a great place to live if you’re a job seeker,” she said, “and it’d be a great place to stay after you find a job.”
