Mercy Names New Chief Nursing Officer

Beth Vlahavas will also be Vice President of Patient Care Services.

Mercy Medical Center has appointed Beth Vlahavas RN, MSN as Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

Vlahavas, who resides in Smithtown and has been serving as Interim CNO since May, is a seasoned nursing professional with more than a decade of administrative leadership experience and nearly two decades of clinical expertise.

According to a release from the medical center, the quality of the nursing care provided under Vlahavas' leadership is one of the key factors in Mercy’s recent designation by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top hospitals in New York State.

Vlahavas came to Mercy Medical Center in December 2008 as the nursing director for the emergency department and behavioral health. She has a strong background in both of these areas, as well as deep experience in pediatrics, medical surgical, critical and ambulatory care. Her previous experience includes 15 years at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn.
