Ideas for the RKO Theater Property

The theater closed in January of 2006.

Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray announced last week that the RKO Twin Theater will finally be replaced on Sunrise Highway.

Murray said in his "State of the Village" address that "A new family restaurant called 'Bonefish' is planned for that location."

While the restaurant may be planned for the location, nothing -- other than the theater's removal -- has been confirmed within the village at this time.

RVC resident took to the Rockville Centre Patch Facebook page Wednesday to discuss potential ideas for the location. Among the ideas mentioned were a brewery with a beer garden on the roof, an upscale comedy club and a performing arts center.

Multiple residents also complained about parking in the area and even suggested that a parking structure should be considered for the property.

More than one year ago Patch asked you what should happen to the property. Now that the ball has started rolling, we ask you again: What should be put in at the RKO Theater property?

Bonefish is a chain, we don't need that here!

I would love a Outback!

I still say a iPIC style movie theater would be great. The premise is its a theater for adults that has a bar and restaurant built in with premium and reserved seating.

I say let it remain vacant and maybe some evangelical church from one of the neighoring communites can buy it and make it into a nice storefront church. So what if it takes it off the tax rolls and brings a new populace in to the village. That would certainly be preferable to a high end chain (i shudder at the thought) restaurant!

it should be turned into a concert venue
ruthanne February 12, 2013 at 04:44 PM
yes a cultural center, something for everyone.

Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree on the cultural center or concert venue. My taxes are high enough. I don't want the village subsidizing some artsy fartsy nonsense. I am excited about Bonefish coming in!

Should be like the Angelika Theatre in city or IPEC in Huntington Mixed media Cultural center with a restaurant would be great. Music, art, theater, films, food. A gathering place for all.

How about a parking garage, to accomodate the all the people who come here to RVC and have such a hard time finding a place to park.

We need more parking the lot behind this location gets filled so fast that the last thing we need is to add another resturant or something that makes it even more difficult to park in this village.

We don't need a parking garage we need ways to get to some of the parking in the town. Possibly foot bridges over sunrise. We don't need a beer garden we have croxley. Bonefish is a great place. If you haven't gone to one try it out before you snub it

A story on the potential parking situation if Bonefish moves in will be posted on Rockville Centre Patch early next week. Keep an eye out! -- Matthew Hogan Associate Regional Editor Nassau County

Bonefish is a delicious restaurant. I understand that it is a chain, but the food is good. Parking is not as bad as you are all making it out to be. Parking meters till 6pm instead of midnight is great. You're all complaining about a restaurant, can you imagine a multi-level parking garage. All I can see with that is skateboarders and groups of people hanging out and urinating in the garage.

Why not a specialized movie theatre like Malvernes, which always seems to have lots of customers. It features films that are not always showing in our other local theatures.
