About two dozen residents joined together Thursday night to consider ideas that would revitalize the Route 110 corridor in Huntington Station.
Source the Station, working with Renaissance Downtowns, the Plainview company hired by the Town of Huntington to plan the revitalization, is collecting ideas on its website. The underlying idea is to involve local residents who can suggest projects and then and vote on which ones Renaissance should pursue with feasibility studies.
Among the proposals are a fruit and vegetable stand, a bookstore/performance space, apartments above storefronts and a cluster of retail shops near the train station.
The residents gathered at La Hacienda restaurant also heard an update from Renaissance vice president Ryan Porter and Source the Station's Erika Forland. Porter said Renaissance hopes to begin some projects by the end of the year or early 2014.
Residents broke into groups to discuss plans for a community festival on March 23, a trivia night, further outreach and several other projects.
