Business Q&A: Red Mango

The RVC frozen yogurt store lets customers serve themselves.

Since Red Mango opened its doors on North Park Avenue in May, the self-serve shop has had a steady stream of residents looking to try the all-natural, non-fat frozen yogurt. This week, manager Sam Shvartsberg discusses the specialty flavors and toppings that keep customers coming back for more.

How does the self-serve concept work?

We have five machines that distribute ten flavors of yogurt each day. We have 40 flavors total that we rotate every week, but our most popular flavors — chocolate, white peach and original—are always available. Next month, we will reintroduce our pumpkin spice flavor for fall. During the winter we will introduce a new hot chocolate flavor.

What types of toppings can customers indulge in?

We have a variety of fruit that is prepared fresh every morning, including kiwi, mango, strawberry, raspberry and banana. We also offer dozens of candy toppings, like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and crumbled Oreos.

How do your employees help make Red Mango’s customer service stand out?

We always have one employee stationed at the door to greet customers, give out samples, and explain how to use the self-serve machines. This tends to get people excited about coming in to try the frozen yogurt.

Are you offering any specials or promotions to entice customers?

We’re always printing ads in the local papers and we like to hand out coupons around town for $1 off your order. We also offer a discount to employees of the Rockville Centre business district.

What makes RVC a good location for Red Mango?

Rockville Centre is a great town where everybody wants to hang out, whether it's day or night or a weekday or a weekend. It’s a great place for people to escape to, so it’s always busy around here.
