Business Q&A: The Jerrie Shop

After 62 years in business, The Jerrie Shop on Sunrise Highway continues to offer stylish swimwear and expert advice on fits. Here, owner Marna Hann shares her philosophy on helping women feel good about their bodies while shopping for swimsuits. 

Tell us about what you offer at The Jerrie Shop?

We offer a variety of fits and styles, but we focus on fit first. Whether you’re a size two or a size 20, we want to help you look the best you can. We will look at your body objectively and tell you what works and what does not work. That’s a unique approach. We’ve been in business since 1949 and the same family has owned the store for all these years.

How would you describe your customer service?

My staff has been working with me for years, so they have really developed a rapport with the customers. The store is very homey and we want people to feel comfortable coming in.

What makes RVC a good location for The Jerrie Shop?

The beauty of this town is that it’s very central and we want to be accessible. So many people pass through RVC on their way to the city or on their way out east. We also have a Woodbury location, so between our two stores we are accessible to the North Shore, the South Shore and both counties of Long Island. 

Do you offer any special promotions for your customers?

We sell high-end products, which can be intimidating to some, but we do discount a lot of the labels that we carry. Even though we focus on fit, we want to accommodate people’s financial needs as well.

What do you want customers to take away from their experience in the store?

Swimsuit shopping can be a very harrowing experience for women, so we want to help them to feel good about themselves. We try to make it a positive experience. Right now, we’re fully stocked for the upcoming season, so we have a lot to offer our customers.
