Business Q&A: Park Avenue Chocolate

This RVC shop is a haven for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Rockville Centre chocolate lovers don’t have to travel far to find an array of homemade treats. Park Avenue Chocolate, located on South Village Avenue, is a one-stop shop for anyone with a sweet tooth. Marion Gross, who has owned the store for more than 22 years, has seen many of her customers grow up and start bringing in a new generation of fans. Gross’ entire catalog, which includes truffles, swirls and chocolate covered items, is entirely homemade. Her personal favorite are the caramels. Here, Gross describes what keeps her store going all year ‘round.

What are some of your most popular items?

Chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered oreos and caramels.

What is your busiest time of year?

It’s never consistent. We’re busy for the holidays. Generally, fall and winter are busier than the summer.

What makes Park Avenue Chocolate Unique?

I make everything here from scratch. (I make) caramels, marshmallows and everything else.

How often do you integrate new recipes into your product line?

I don’t. I stick with the old because why should you change something that’s going well?

How long does it take you to make all the inventory?

Starting in September, I work “max time.” I can get about 40 or 50 pounds per day (made).
