LIRR Rush Hour Service Restored on Babylon Line

Multiple trains will have their service restored on Monday.

Starting Monday, the Long Island Rail Road will restore three evening rush-hour trains that had been temporarily canceled while tunnel excavation for the East Side Access project was underway in Queens.

The three canceled afternoon peak eastbound trains restored back to the schedule are:

  • The 4:52 p.m. train from Penn Station to Babylon.
  • The 5:20 p.m. train from Penn Station to Long Beach.
  • The 5:40 p.m. train from Penn Station to Seaford.

The four afternoon peak trains with adjusted schedules reverting back to normal include:

  • The 5:36 p.m. train from Penn Station to Babylon.
  • The 5:55 p.m. train from Penn Station to Long Beach.
  • The 5:59 p.m. train from Penn Station to Babylon.
  • The 6:44 p.m. train from Babylon to Patchogue.

The restorations have come one week ahead of schedule, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The schedule changes were implemented on July 9, and service was expected to be impacted by the excavation work into August.

The evening rush hour schedule changes were originally planned for up to four weeks while an important switch (No. 813) was taken out of service for the East Side Access tunnel boring work to be performed in Queens.

Ha! Don't miss the LIRR one bit! Inefficient and bureaucratic nightmare of a public Dinosaur out there today. Reminds me of the Simpsons episode "Marge vs the Monorail". LIRR would be out of business if there were competition $300+ monthly fares gets you -dirty cars -dirty platforms and stations -poor public communications -antiquated switching system -rampant corruption (worker's comp/pensions/disability anyone?) costing billions -No capital improves -fare increases based on whims of the MTA LIRR (not facts) -Delays, Delays, Delays with the slightest sign of rain or snow. -Some of the dumbest executives in the business. period. You could do better with a Pogo Stick than deal with the LIRR
