RVC School Budget Passes, O’Shea Re-Elected

Budget and board trustee margin mirror school improvement bond vote.

Rockville Centre residents passed the 2013-14 school budget Tuesday and re-elected John O’Shea to the board of education.

The $100.7 million budget passed by a final margin of 2,089 to 1,499.

The budget is a nearly $3.5 million or 3.59 percent increase over the previous budget. The school year tax levy is 3.55 percent.

In the election for O’Shea’s seat on the Rockville Centre Board of Education, O’Shea collected 2,132 votes compared to challenger Lynda Rubino’s 1,466 votes.

The passage of the budget comes on the heels of a $45.9 million school improvement bond that residents passed back in March by a margin of 2,078 to 1,465 votes.
