In school news, the boy's and girl's varsity soccer teams each made it to the Nassau County Class A championship game. The Lady Cyclones fell 1-0 to Garden City in the final, but the boy's team took home the crown with a 1-0 win over Wantagh. South Side senior Kelsey McKenna was named a semi-finalist in the Siemen's Science competition, and the high school's girl's volleyball lost in the Class A semifinals to Wantagh. In addition, eight new students from South Side High School were inducted into the National Honor Society.

In community news, a local businessman donated $10,000 to a non-profit organization to help build a home for a disabled veteran, and an RVC doctor was recognized for his philanthropic work by the Town of Hempstead at its annual, "Make a Difference" awards. Village families supported the troops overseas through the Jacob's Light Foundation — a non-profit that sends care packages and hand written letters to soldiers deployed around the world — and the Nassau Veterans Organization honored those who have served in the Armed Forces at a ceremony at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.

In business news, RVC Patch posted local job openings in the area, and two village restaurants — Chadwick's and George Martin — are participating in Long Island Restaurant Week.
