Molloy Lax Hosts Food Drive for Local Church

Team collects more than 12 crates of canned and dry goods.

Over the last month, the men's lacrosse team coordinated its first-ever food drive to help local families in need, and amassed 12 full boxes of meals in the process. Last Wednesday, the Lions went over to Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Hempstead and dropped off the boxes to their food pantry, which serves some of the homeless and less fortunate people on Long Island.

"The team did such a tremendous job with the food drive, and to see it go to such a great cause, makes us feel like we are making a big difference," said Head Coach Eric Petrullo. "We will be working again with Campus Ministries to help local families in need. The team wants to do as much as possible."

Petrullo and the Lions kick off the 2011 season on February 19 when they square off with Mars Hill College in a non-conference match-up from Mars Hill, N.C. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
