Volunteers Needed for Storm Drain Medallion Program

Town of Hempstead recruiting helpers for storm water management program.

Volunteers are needed for a program to place medallions on storm drains around Town of Hempstead.

The program is being expanded to target pet waste disposal on top of other trash and plant life.

The medallions remind passersby that nothing but rainwater should flow into storm drains and remind people to keep them leaves and trash.

Volunteers will be provided with medallions, gloves, and adhesive along with training on installation and maps of storm drain locations.

For more information, please call 516-897-4113.

re: "The program is being expanded to target pet waste disposal on top of other trash and plant life." First I said HUH? but then I checked the TOH web site. They actually are pushing this. I can't imagine what *that* "medallion" will look like, but I hope (as usual) it has Kate Murray's picture on it. When there's a power outage, 3 million gallons of untreated (really nasty) waste water spill from Mr Mangano's Bay Park Plant, same as it did before Hurricane Sandy. It would take a lot of puppy poop to equal 3 million gallons of people poop. Maybe Ms Murray should send Mr Mangano a medallion. Time for "Puppy Poop Cameras" at every dog park. There could be a stiff fine, but no points on your Dog License.
