The following is from the Village of Rockville Centre:
Update: Nov. 15, 11:21 a.m.
Because of the storms, dumpsters will not be in place until next Wednesday, Nov. 21 (day before Thanksgiving).
ORIGINAL STORY
The Rockville Centre Department of Public Works has established two drop-off locations where residents may bring accumulated paper products during holiday weeks when the Wednesday curbside pick-up service is suspended.
Residents had pointed out to the Village Board of Trustees that the suspensions are a burden, especially during the many holiday weeks near the end of the year.
In response, the village will place special containers at DPW headquarters, 10 Sunrise Highway, and in Municipal Parking Field No. 12, Sunrise Highway between North Forest Avenue and North Long Beach Road, where residents may bring their accumulated newspapers, cardboard, product packaging, magazines, catalogs and junk mail for recycling.
The containers will be available Wednesdays through Fridays at the two locations during the holiday weeks for Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Recycling paper products produces income for the village and removes tonnage from the waste stream, lowering the cost of government and reducing village real estate taxes.
