Tuesday's Post-Sandy Clean-Up Weather

Things calm down a whole lot a day after Sandy wreaks havoc on Long Island

Good morning, Long Island – here's the forecast for your Tuesday post-Sandy Patch Forecast, via the National Weather Service.

Daytime

Tuesday morning will see the leftover effects from Sandy winding down throughout the morning. Hide tide, which last hit our area around 8:45 p.m. last night, will hit the Great South Bay around 9:10 a.m. – anyone left in low-lying areas, including the flood zones, should be ready for a second smaller surge. Absolutely no where near last night's record breaking floods, but still rising.

Showers will continue throughout the morning hours, but should be light in nature. Long Island was really spared the worst of Sandy's rains and that trend will continue. Winds will be gusty still, sustained between 15 and 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Sustained winds aren't going to be damaging, but will be enough to have loosen objects knocked off things like trees. Highs for the day are in the mid 60s.

Evening

The evening will continue to see the chance of showers as Sandy makes a dramatic turn to the north over the Appalachians and the large storm will wrap in some winds and rain behind it. Again, rains should be lighter than we saw on Monday. Winds will lessen as the night comes on, down to 15 mph at the hardest. Lows will be in the mid 50s.

As of 10 a.m., Sheridan was still flooded by about 3 feet of water. It was probably double that during storm surge.
