South Nassau Names New Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dr. Alan D. Garely completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York.

South Nassau Communities Hospital has named Alan D. Garely, M.D., chair of obstetrics and gynecology.

Garely is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a fellowship-trained pelvic reconstructive surgeon. He succeeds Robert Hock, MD, who served South Nassau’s obstetrics and gynecology program for more than two decades.

“Dr. Garely is at the forefront of obstetrical and gynecologic medicine,” said Linda Efferen, MD, South Nassau’s chief medical officer. “Under the leadership of Dr. Garely, the women in the communities we serve can count on South Nassau to continue its tradition of excellence in the delivery of patient-centered, compassionate obstetrical and gynecologic care.”

Garely completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York. His fellowship training was at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York/University of Connecticut and Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans.

The newly named chair is a member of numerous professional societies, has served on the board of directors for the American Urogynecologic Society and is a highly regarded international lecturer and author.

Garely is an oral examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Prior to this appointment, he was the Director of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine and South Nassau. He also is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai and active in their accredited fellowship program.
