RVC Supports Kendall Curnuck With Fall Fundraiser

More than 1,000 participate in fundraiser at CJ's Coffee Shop.

On Oct. 9, more than 1,000 Rockville Centre residents gathered in the village for fall festivities to support 8-year-old Kendall Curnuck in her fight against Leukemia. The owners of andplanned the event, dubbed “Kindness for Kendall,” which included live music, face painting, a petting zoo and a pumpkin patch.

“When we saw Kendall’s story, we wanted to do something to help her on a large scale, said Cerina McQuillan, one of the owners of Links Real Estate Group. “By the end of this week, we’ll tally all of the proceeds and give 100 percent to the Curnuck family.”

McQuillan, who knew Kendall’s mother as a child, explained that each year the Links Real Estate Group tries to do something to give back to the community since their business is based in RVC. When she heard the Curnucks’ story, she knew that this was their next fundraising opportunity.

“I didn’t really know what to expect going in to this, but I was so overwhelmed by the outcome that I had tears in my eyes the whole day,” McQuillan said.

All of the members of the Curnuck family attended the fundraiser, and Curnuck’s sister and her brownie troop even set up a table to sell baked goods and small crafts in support of her Kendall. Other activities throughout the day included a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese auction, and a bounce house.

“I am so happy to see the community stepping up time and again,” said RVC resident Dave Russo. “The outpouring of involvement and donations has been unbelievable.”

The support for Curnuck that has spread through the RVC community over the past several months was sparked by a video that Russo produced documenting her illness. A lemonade fundraiser spearheaded by eleven-year-old Jolie Creo and a shopping event at Jeannine’s Boutique followed soon after.

“We are so happy to know that Kindness for Kendall is contagious,” said Patrice Creo, Jolie’s mother. “Our only hope is that people will continue to keep their hearts open and that the kindness will continue to spread.”
