RVC St. Patrick's Day Parade Route Likely to Change

Potholes for village to consider change in parade start.

The Village of Rockville Centre may be altering the route of its annual St. Patrick's Day parade.

According to Village Administrator Keith Spadaro, potholes and other problems on Maple Avenue between North Long Beach Road and Jefferson Avenue will more than likely force the village to change the starting point of the parade.

"We're probably going to be starting up in parking field 11 by Associated, coming down Jefferson Avenue," Spadaro said at Monday's village meeting. "We're going to go westbound on Maple Avenue. The block between [North] Long Beach Road and Jefferson Avenue is in pretty bad shape."

Spadaro said that the "deteriorated" portion of Maple Avenue will be fixed as part of the Maple Avenue project, but it's not going to be fixed before the date of the parade. Due to the problems, the parade is likely going to begin one block west of its normal starting point and then continue along the regular parade route.

"Tentatively, we're going to have to move the route a little bit," Spadaro said. "... [It's] not definite yet, but it looks like that's what's going to be happening, so we will broadcast that information when we get it."
