Roadwork to Close Westbound Sunrise Lanes in RVC

Work will take place Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

The Village of Rockville Centre will be closing down two travel lanes on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway at Morris Avenue Tuesday night, July 30, between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.

These closures are needed to perform lighting work at Morris Avenue, weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to use alternate routes or they will experience delays during these Sunrise Highway lane closures. The New York State Department of Transportation is reminding drivers who cannot use alternate routes are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone for their safety as well as the safety of the highway work crew.

Drivers are reminded of the Move-Over Law that now includes all hazard vehicles with amber lights such as tow trucks and construction vehicles. On parkways and other major highways with multiple lanes, drivers must move  to a travel lane away from a vehicle displaying amber, red, white, or blue flashing lights, or slow down.

Violators face moving violation fines and points on their drivers’ licenses. Drivers should also be aware that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
