No. 67 - Attend a Board of Education Meeting

Find out how your tax dollars are being spent.

Nearly 60 percent of your total taxes goes into the school system, so shouldn't you know how your money is spent?

That leads us to No. 67 of our 100 things to do in Rockville Centre. As residents of Rockville Centre, we all know that our school system is exceptional. But as residents, we need to do more than simply pay our school taxes. The board needs your direction during budget season, your advice on capital projects and ideas on how the district can be improved.

The only way to do that is by attending the district's Board of Education meetings. The BOE meets twice a month, once for a briefing session in the administration building across from , and the other in the cafeteria of the high school. The next meeting is on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the administration building.
