New Mayor, Trustees Sworn into Office

Mayor Francis Murray and trustees Mike Sepe and Nancy Howard officially joined the village board.

The RVC United Party swept the June 21 village election, ushering in a new era in village government and ousting village board incumbents Mary Bossart and David Krasula.

At Tuesday's reorganizational meeting, the newly-elected officials — Mayor Francis Murray and trustees Nancy Howard and Mike Sepe — were sworn into office.

Murray was sworn in by his father and former village mayor, Eugene Murray.

"As I stand before you tonight as your new mayor, I have to tell you what it means to have my father swear me in," Murray said. "I have been by his side since I was 10 years old. I got to see a young man give back to his community, volunteering in every facet of Rockville Centre...I've tried to emulate everything he's done in his life."

Murray explained that his administration will be about volunteering, and asked the community to do their part to improve Rockville Centre.

As one of his first acts as mayor, Murray made parking free in the village after 6 p.m. "Come on back," he said. "Rockville Centre is friendly again."

Howard, who Murray designated as Deputy Mayor, thanked those who supported the RVC United Campaign, and described being elected to the board as an "awesome feeling."

"I vow to work my hardest for this board and the community," Howard said.

Howard was designated as the village's liaison to the Parks Department, RVC Education Foundation and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, among others.

Sepe, who will be the liaison to the police department, as well as the planning and zoning boards, thanked the previous board for their work and vowed to help improve the village.

"We stand on the shoulders of their accomplishments," Sepe said of the previous board. "I am thrilled to be a part of this administration, and thank you to all of you."
