A car crashed completely into the Trader Joe’s in Oceanside Friday afternoon, police said.

Traps Set for Pack of Wild Dogs

Town of Hempstead Animal Control has set traps for a pack of wild dogs spotted around the Five Towns.

The three or four dogs, which resemble foxes, have ripped up garbages bags and attacked pets, squirrels, rabbits and foxes, according to Guy Bove, animal control supervisor. No humans have reported being attacked. Click here for the full story.

Iavarone Bros. Founder Dies

A beloved founder of a Long Island staple in gourmet Italian food, Joseph Iavarone, died Sunday in Garden City. He was 88 years old.

Iavarone was the head of Iavarone Bros., an Italian gourmet business started by his father, Pasquale, in New York City after he emigrated from Italy in 1919. After serving as a medic in World War II, Joseph joined his father in the family business. Joined by his brother, Jerry, who returned from fighting in Korea, the two took over their fathers' business and expanded it beyond its city roots. Click here for the full story.

Voters Reject $99.5M Bond

A proposed $99.5 million bond for the Sewanhaka Central High School District was turned down by voters Wednesday by less than 300 votes.
