Mercy Medical Center has appointed Nenad Grlic, DO, to be Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Grlic, who resides in Garden City, has been serving as interim director and previously was associate director of the department for six years.
“Dr. Grlic has more than 14 years experience as an emergency medicine physician and has been instrumental in significantly reducing the wait times and improving patient satisfaction with the high quality care that is the hallmark of our Emergency Department,” said Mercy’s Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Aaron Glatt, in announcing the appointment. “His knowledge of the local community, his strong relationships with the local fire departments and volunteer ambulance corps, his additional training in internal medicine, plus his compassion and devotion to his patients make him the perfect choice to lead the department.”
Grlic earned his medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and did postgraduate training in both internal and emergency medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Prior to joining Mercy, Grlic served as Associate Director of Emergency Medicine at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center and in the Emergency Department at Montefiore Medical Center.
At Mercy, he has been serving as Chairman of the Emergency Department Quality Improvement Committee, Medical Director of the hospital’s Emergency Preparedness Program and Co-chairman of Mercy’s NY-State Designated Stroke Center.
Grlic is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
