Local Drivers Flock to Sunrise Citgo

Gas hard to come by as outages continue.

"It's just chaos."

That was the phrase Citgo Gas Station owner Peter Halperin used Wednesday morning amidst a stream of never-ending drivers attempting to enter his gas station on the corner of Sunrise Highway and N Centre Avenue.

The gas station had several of its entrances wrapped in caution tape to prevent drivers from cutting the massive lines that spilled out onto the surrounding roadways.

Rockville Centre Police had been on the scene earlier in the morning.

"There's nothing we can really do," Halperin said of controlling the crowds pouring into his station.

Halperin continued to say that the situation was nearly "impossible" to control as traffic backed up along Sunrise Highway and N Centre Avenue.

As for the gas supply, Halperin was unsure of how long it would last. "It all depends on when the barges start bringing product in," he said.
