Local CPA Hosts Public Access Show

Ed Slott addresses avoiding tax traps for retirement funds in his new program.

Ed Slott, a certified public accountant in Rockville Centre, is tired of seeing financial advisors mismanage their clients' money, in particular their retirement funds.

That's why the man The Wall Street Journal named the best source for IRA advice is airing his newest special, "Lower Your Taxes! Now and Forever," on WLIW21 this Saturday, where he'll address financial planning for retirees, in particular how to avoid taxation on retirement accounts.

"I wanted to create consumer awareness for people being underserved by their financial advisors," Slott said. "They don't have the right advisor to navigate them when they take money out. It's what you keep after taxes that counts most."

Slott's television special aims to help those understand complicated tax laws, and save them money when they retire. He noted that one of the biggest mistakes people make with their retirement fund is thinking that everything is taken care of by their advisor. "They have no plan to access their retirement money, and when they do, it's too late, and they're paying half of it in taxes," he said.

His special, "Lower Your Taxes! Now and Forever," airs on WLIW21 on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. His office is located at 100 Merrick Rd. in Rockville Centre.
