UPDATE: Power Restored Through Most of RVC

Early winds have knocked out power for some residents.

This story was written Monday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m.

The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) reported that the nearly 175 customers who were without power near Demott Avenue and North Long Beach Road early Monday morning have had their power restored.

There are currently 212,602 outages throughout Long Island.

In a statement released Sunday, LIPA told customers to expect heavy rain, flooding and winds in excess of 50 miles per hour through the night that are likely to cause trees and branches to pull down power lines. The company urged customers to "prepare and plan for power outages, which based on the current track could last between 7 to 10 days."

To report an outage to LIPA, call 1-800-490-0075 or text 'REG' to 695472 (myLIPA) and then 'OUT.' For more important emergency contacts, tips and links, click here.

The Village of Rockville Centre also recommends these phone numbers during the hurricane:

  • Use 911 to call for police and medical emergencies.
  • Use 766-1500 for non-emergency police matters.
  • Use 766-5800 to report electrical outages, downed wires or downed poles.

Then Matthew, please make that an addendum or n.b. To your article. We are not receiving assistance in some parts here and need the publication. So someone can send help to those of us in RVC that need it. Who dont have power or heat or food.

Duh. RVC doesn't use LIPA!! RVC has its own power supply.

There's a northern portion of RVC that is serviced by LIPA, as per the LIPA map. Again, this was early Monday when outages were first being reported. -- Matthew Hogan Associate Regional Editor
