Hundreds Gather for Seaside 9/11 Ceremony

Survivors, families, and leaders gather in remembrance Wednesday.

Holding American flags, white carnations, and at times, the hands of others, hundreds gathered at Town Park in Point Lookout to commemorate the 12-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Serving as color guards, members of the Point Lookout and Lido Fire Departments presented the colors and retired FDNY firefighter Fred McFarland led the National Anthem.

Religious leaders, survivors, and children of victims spoke at the ceremony, which drew hundreds to the seaside.

Those who attended had the opportunity to place flags beside a memorial fountain and toss in carnations. Some took solace in standing in thought with their feet in the ocean.
