Hispanic Brotherhood Collecting Food for Thanksgiving Drive

Local organization collecting to help needy families through the holidays.

The Hispanic Brotherhood of Rockville Centre is collecting canned goods for needy families in the area to be distributed next week for the Thanksgiving holiday.

According to Marguerite Keller, an assistant executive at the Hispanic Brotherhood, they are looking for canned goods, non-perishables and turkeys.

"We have some turkeys already donated but some is too little," she said. "... This year, with the enormous impact of the storm, we expect more families than ever to be in need of food."

Keller said that the staff members at the Hispanic Brotherhood is already getting the bags ready for distributiona and wil be giving them out next week.

Food can be dropped off at the Hispanic Brotherhood, located at 59 Clinton Ave, until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

"If there is extra, we give food away for the Christmas holidays as well so nothing goes to waste," Keller said. "We have plenty of storage in our basement as we have always been designated as an emergency food pantry by Nassau County and Island Harvest."
