Celebrate the weekend and Father's Day with these exciting events.

From fairs to fishing, we found some unique ways for you to celebrate Father's Day this weekend with your dad, as well as other exciting events happening in the neighborhood for everyone to enjoy.

DIY DAD GIFT

What: Father’s Day Craft

Where:

When: Saturday, June 18, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Why go: Create a unique gift for Dad. An expert will be on hand to help paint a wonderful ceramic pen/pencil holder for Father’s Day. Children should wear old clothes or smocks.

Age: children 3 – 10 years old (accompanied by an adult).

GRAB A PADDLE 

What: Kayaking

Where: Empire Kayaks, 4 Empire Blvd. in Island Park

When: Saturday, June 18, 10 a.m. - noon

Why go: Take a guided 1.5 hour tour through the cuts of nearby Garrett Marsh. A marine biologist will lead this family friendly tour while explaining the unique ecosystem of the marshes.

BLAST OFF 

What: Rockets for Father’s Day

Where: Tanglewood Preserve, 1 Tanglewood Rd. in Rockville Centre

When: Sunday, June 19, 9 a.m. - noon

Why go: A project that dad and the kids can do together. What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than by building and launching your own rocket?

Age: all

Cost: $20 per child and Dad is free

FUN AT THE FAIR

What: Huckleberry Frolic

Where: Memorial Park, Woods Ave. in East Rockaway

When: Saturday, June 18, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Why go: A fair with a good cause behind it. This festival benefits the 323 year old Grist Mill and features a parade, live music, crafts, rides, food and more.

Cost: free

CAPTURE JAWS

What: Shark Tournament

Where: Guy Lombardo Marina, Freeport

When: Saturday, June 18, 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Why go: This one-of-a-kind fishing experience boasts over 2,000 participants and huge cash and prize awards. This is one of the oldest and largest shark tournaments.

CLASSIC RIDES

What: Car Show

Where: The Oceanside Gazebo, 65 Foxhurst Rd, Oceanside

When: Sunday, June 19, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Why go: A car show with proceeds going to the Oceanside Education Foundation. There will be all kinds of cars on display along with food, live music and raffles.

Age: all

Cost: free (or $10 to register your car for the show)

SAY CHEESE 

What: Family Photo Day

Where: Nassau County Museum of Art, One Museum Drive, Roslyn Harbor

When: Sunday, June 19, noon – 3 p.m.

Why go: Museum docents conduct interactive family tours of the Avedon exhibition after which children and their family members will collaborate on drawing family portraits. Each family group may have portrait photographer Sol Aramendi shoot individuals or the group.

Cost: $20 for adults ($10 for members), $5 for children and includes museum admission. This family event is held in the main building.
