Dense Fog Advisory for Long Island Through 1 a.m.

Visibility will be a quarter-mile or less.

Wet ground and mild temperatures turned Long Island into a foggy mess on Wednesday, with the thickest fog expected to blanket the area in the overnight hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory for Nassau and Suffolk Counties, expected to last until 1 a.m. Thursday.

According to the weather service, visibility will be a quarter-mile or less, which can make driving especially hazardous in the worst conditions.

Locals should drive slow, use low beams and leave plenty of space between cars, the service warned.

Temperatures Thursday are expected to hover around 40 degrees.
