'Centennial Baby' Born at Mercy Medical Center

Marking the first milestone in its 2013 centennial celebration, Mercy Medical Center has taken special note of the 100th baby delivered at the hospital in its 100th year.

Christopher Tabora, weighing in at a mere 7 pounds, was born on Feb. 3 at 5:16 a.m.

Tabora was cared for in Mercy’s state-of-the-art Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the only facility on the south shore of Nassau County designated by New York State to provide the complex care required for all premature and sick newborns.

Proud mother, 28-year-old Wendy Tabora of Hempstead, showed-off her new son to senior hospital officials, who presented her with a special gift basket to mark his unique status as the hospital’s 100th newborn in the 100th year after its establishment.

"Mother/baby services have had a special place at Mercy throughout our 100 year history," Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Aaron E. Glatt said. "And meeting the unique needs of mothers and their newborns remains at the core of our mission."
