Not so Merry Xmas for RVC Spartans Hockey Team

For the RVC Spartan's hockey team it was a bad start to the holiday season.Facing the number 1 team in the league the Bellmore/Merrick A team. The Spartan's lose their 2nd game in a row 7-1.The bright spot for the Spartan's was their goalie Brian Albertsen's performance in the first period making save after save to keep the score to 1-0 Bellmore/Merrick. The Spartan's had a lot of opportunities in the first and half of the second period but couldn't convert. It looked as though the Spartan's had a chance when they scored in the second period making it 3-1,but with 1:56 left in the period Bellmore/Merrick scored their fourth goal making it 4-1.That was when the wheels came off for the Spartan's, Bellmore/Merrick scored 3 more goals sealing their victory 7-1.After reviewing the score sheet,I noticed that the scorer in the booth had kept track of the shot's on goal. It is only the second time that this has been done for our games and by the same person. I don't know why the other scorer's can't do the same, I feel it's an important stat in hockey. Any way in this particular game it showed that Brian Albertsen had faced 40 shot's on goal and the opposing goalie 13. The lone Spartan's goal was by Pat Kavanagh. We hope to get the Spartan's back on track for the New Year. Our next game isn't till Monday,January 27 at 8:00 PM vs the Long Beach team at the Long Beach Arena. Practice continues on Friday's at Freeport at 4:30 pm January 3rd. The second half of the schedule has been posted on the website. www.rvcspartanshockey.com     Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!
