Curran votes in favor of disabled Veteran-owned Businesses

Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook – 21st A.D.) recently voted in support for the Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Act, A.9135/S.6865/Governor Program Bill #35, a measure that would expand economic opportunities for disabled veteran-owned businesses to share in the economy they bravely fought for and defended.Assemblyman Curran, a main sponsor of the bill, is a long-time advocate for veterans and has sponsored many local events, such as the Veterans’ Hall of Honor, that recognize their courage and sacrifices to their country and communities.

“We owe everything that we enjoy today to those who answered the call to serve their country and each of our veterans deserves our gratitude and respect,” said Curran, who sits on the Assembly Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “This bill is a small token of appreciation that can go a long way toward ensuring that everything our veterans have done for this great nation and its citizens, and have achieved with regard to entrepreneurship, will be rewarded.”

Curran said that A.9135 passed both the Senate and Assembly and will likely be signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.  He also mentioned another bill he is a sponsor of, A.1735, which would go a step further and cover all veterans.

“While another bill that I am a sponsor of, A.1735, goes farther in that it encompasses all veterans and focuses of their integration into our local economies, this bill (A.9135) is a step in the right direction in favor of our veterans,” said Curran. “Regardless, I am pleased to have supported this legislation and look forward to paving the way for our veterans to receive these benefits.”
