Garden City Community Church Licensed Minister, George Bashian visited with the students of Community Church Nursery School on Tuesday, October 23rd. The theme of the presentation was “Everybody is different; God loves each and every one of us.”
"From time to time George will meet with the children to talk to them about the church.
Basic ideas of God's love, friendship and respect for others are on the agenda," said Cathie McCullough, director of CCNS.
Bashian wore his minister’s stole, which is covered with woven pictures of girls and boys…all different from one another. The children were asked to find the differences in the children on the stole. Then they were asked, “Are there differences between each of you in the class?” They responded each time. George referenced the book, It's Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr, the book the teachers had just read in class. The teaching point was that God loves each one of us, just as we are, that it really is okay to be different.
Then the children prayed for all of the things they are thankful for, which they gleefully announced.
During the lesson, Bashian said that when he wore his stole he feels that God is wrapping him up with love. Before leaving the sanctuary, students were each given an opportunity to “try on” the stole.
One adult commented, "Church members know George has a way with children. He can explain the most complicated religious beliefs in simple terms so that little ones can understand."
