RVC's Serling Named To Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List

The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award honoring the nation's top male and female collegiate lacrosse players.

Rockville Centre native and Hofstra men’s lacrosse midfielder Steve Serling has been named to the 2012 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of collegiate lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for the 2012 Tewaaraton Award.

Serling is a red-shirt graduate student whose 2011 season was cut short by injury after just four games but not before he tallied three goals and six assists. The Lafayette College graduate tallied 72 goals and 24 assists in three seasons for the Leopards and was a USILA All-America honorable mention, the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and a USILA Scholar-All-America team selection in 2010.

The Tewaaraton Trophy symbolizes lacrosse’s centuries-old roots in Native American heritage. To honor the heritage of the sport, the award presents two annual scholarships to students of American Indian decent. The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award honoring the nation's top male and female collegiate lacrosse players and is endorsed by the Mohawk Nation Council of Elders and US Lacrosse.

The Selection Committees will make additions to its list as the season progresses and athletes earn a spot along side these elite players. In late April, the list will be narrowed to 25 and these men will earn the distinction of Tewaaarton Nominees. In mid-May, the five finalists will be announced.
