RVC Hurricane Sandy Aftermath Update

Rockville Centre residents have been reaching out with various questions related to Hurricane Sandy's aftermath, including power and other resources.

Here is a current summary of the state of Rockville Centre as of early Thursday morning.

Village Mayor Francis Murray has confirmed that, as of late Wednesday, the state of emergency declared on Monday is still in effect.

Village spokesman Jeff Kluewer confirmed Wednesday afternoon that power will be restored to the largest affected areas first, however, a time line for when those restorations will be completed has not been established.

Murray reiterated in a statement, "We cannot estimate when individual areas, streets or customers will be restored to power."

Residents can report electrical outages, downed wires or downed poles by calling 766-5800.

Another resource of question was RVC water. The water, according to the same statement from Murray, is safe to drink. There is no "boil water" order in effect for RVC.

The RVC School District canceled classes for the remainder of the week Wednesday afternoon. No determination has been made on classes beyond Friday.
