Press 195: A Panini Paradise

Serving more than 40 sandwiches, the new Park Avenue eatery has something for every pallet.

As one of the newest additions to the busiest strip of commercial property in Rockville Centre, Press 195 — a panini restaurant and wine bar located at the former Gabrielle's — opened its doors on Park Avenue in late October. With existing locations in Park Slope, Brooklyn and Bayside, Queens, the RVC location marks the owners first foray into the Long Island dining scene.

"This industry is based on word of mouth and so far we've gotten a great response from local residents," said John Annechino, one of Press 195's four owners. "We would like to keep expanding since we've gotten off to such a good start."

Among the most popular menu selections at Press 195, Annechino said, are the roast pork paninis, including one option with ham, Swiss cheese, pickle chips and garlic spread, as well as another variation laced with fresh cilantro, Monterey Jack cheese, onions, jalapenos smothered in a roasted-garlic spread. Each panini is made with homemade Ciabatta bread, he added, and all sandwich selections are priced modestly under $10.

For those interested in dining a tad lighter, Press 195 also offers an extensive salad menu, with options like roasted beet and chicken avocado salads, as well as a soup of the day. The restaurant's dessert specialty is a Nutella press with fresh bananas and ice cream.

The restaurant also boasts a large, fully stocked, high end bar near the entrance. "I just like the vibe here," said Dave Lewis, one of Press 195's bartenders. "There's great energy in the restaurant." Lewis, who has been working at the RVC location since it opened, noted that his days are spent filling to-go orders.

Press 195's RVC location also caters private parties and events. "We encourage anyone with a large group to come in and look at our back room," said Annechino, who explained that the private space accommodates groups of 25 to 40 people.
